A strong fourth quarter
completed a year in equities
that delivered double-digit
advances for many stock
indexes. Equities have been
bolstered throughout the year
by extensive central bank
stimulus across many markets,
providing fuel to advance
stocks in almost all regions
of the globe. However, worries
centered on the U.S. fiscal
cliff, coupled with the debt
ceiling overhang, served as a
wet blanket for markets late
in December. For the overall
portfolio mix, the portfolio
adviser remains focused on
fundamentally strong companies
that offer a margin of safety.
These companies tend to have
quality franchises, stable-to-
growing market shares,
attractive products, and
resilient cash flows.
