Portfolio Update
Quarterly Update
In the third quarter of 2012,
the Fund underperformed its
S&P benchmark. Broadly
speaking, stock selection hurt
relative results, while sector
allocation was positive.
Consumer discretionary was the
most significant detractor.
Here, the Fund’s holdings
ended in negative territory,
while the sector was among the
strongest performers within
the benchmark. Stock choices
in health care held back
relative returns as well,
though a relatively large
allocation to this defensive
sector mitigated that effect.
Significant exposure in
information technology also
proved detrimental. On the
positive side, low relative
exposure to financials helped,
as did stock selection in
materials.
